Urgent medical care provider Secure Medical Care was once again a proud participant at the annual Beltsville family health fair on Monday, November 15, 2010. The event, “Fall Into Good Health”, was held at the Beltsville Community Center. About 200 community members attended the fair, where they had the opportunity to view health-oriented exhibits and also receive a variety of services - from vision, blood pressure, and glucose screenings to flu shots - from local health care providers. Attendees of all ages had fun while learning about ways to live longer, healthier lives.
Secure Medical Care's Beltsville Clinical Director Nichole Reilly, and staff member Lisa Myers, were on hand providing flu shots, dispensing general medical advice for getting through the flu season, and sharing information about Secure Medical Care’s walk-in urgent care facilities, their many services – including on-site lab, x-ray, and pharmacy – and their convenient hours and locations.
“We take pride in our community involvement and in bringing quality health care to community members, so we’re always happy to support this event and to have the opportunity to meet with residents and let them know we’re here - and open every day - when they need urgent care,” Nichole Reilly said.
The annual health event is sponsored by the Beltsville Recreation Council and hosted by the students of Dr. Sharon M. Desmond’s “Introduction to Community Health” class, which is part of the Department of Public and Community Health at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Health. This event gives Dr. Desmond’s students the opportunity to put what they’ve been learning in the classroom to use for the Beltsville community. The students work on six committees - door prizes, evaluation, facilities management, publicity, topics and vendors - to plan and execute the fair, including creating the health information exhibits.
